Oceana Gold Ltd
Following years of prospecting by a succession of companies, Oceana Gold Ltd resumed mining at the Globe in 2007, railing out its first consignment of gold-bearing concentrates on April 22. Ore dug by huge machines from an opencast pit where old time miners once toiled in dark and dust is processed in a large plant nearby, but the final stage of extraction and production of gold bars takes place at Macraes Flat in Otago. The seven-year project is expected to produce half a million ounces of gold, making the Globe again the richest locality on the Reefton quartz field
